My First Love

I was sixteen when I got my first car.  It was a red, 1983 Nissan Sentra in bad need of a paint job.  The year was 1986 and I was a junior in high school.  It was my first real taste of freedom. I could go anywhere $5 worth of gas would take me!  I had a part-time job at McDonald’s and this car was everything!  I think it was a big part of forming me into the responsible adult I am now.  I remember my car note was like $190 per month and my entire monthly McDonald’s paycheck pretty much went to cover the payment! LOL!  But it just made me want to work harder to be able to pay my car note AND have a social life.  I spent every weekend hanging out with my friends and driving around parking lots of clubs that I was too young to actually get into. It was crazy fun! I put some miles on that little car!  I searched the web and found a picture of a 1983 Nissan Sentra!  This is exactly like my first car!  Except for whatever that box is on top. . . .oh, the memories this brings back!

  1. My first car was a 1995 infiniti g3 (i think that was what it was called). When I got it it was 2001 so it was a few years old. It did it’s job until my power steering belt broke as I drove through south central and the engine went kapoot! LOL

    1. Oh, my Sentra was definitely would not have won any Safe Car and Driver awards! Lol! And I was notorious for driving on tires that were five miles away from probably disintegrating! I guess that’s the downfall of getting a car so young- being TOTALLY CLUELESS! But I lived to tell the tale!! 🙂

  2. You made me think back to my first car. You were lucky to have a car at 16. I didn’t get my first car until I was 22. A 93 Chevy Corsica…talk about memories 🙂

    1. It was pretty cool to get a car at 16 even if I was always broke! LOL!

  3. my first car didnt go over 40 lol
    Coming from SITS. : )

    1. LOL! Truth be told if I went over 55 my Sentra started to shake uncontrollably! I’m sure it was a death trap but I was fearless back then! 😉 Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Mine was a ford escort but I don’t remember the year. I drove it til it died. I loved that little care. Vinyl seats that would be blazing hot in the summer time that I used to put a towel on the seat, and freezing in the winter. Thanks for the memory LOL>

    1. OMGEE! My seat were cloth but I had friends with leather seats and in H-Town in the summer they were brutal!

  5. I had a 1986 maroon Toyota corolla! I named it Jack and was the first of my friends to have a car, but was always nervous to drive friends around, still first to volunteer for designated driver! I moved to a bigger city and didn’t drive for quite sometime, so I am still horrible at parking.

    1. I’m the worst at parallel parking! And now it’s a big thing where I live to reverse park. I just want to pull in and out of a space! I think that’s why I park at the far end of parking lots so I won’t have any issues! LOL!

  6. My very first car was 1988 Buick Lesabre Coupe I bought at an auto auction in 2002. It was old, but it had power everything, and only 75,000 miles on it. All it needed was an oil change and a wheel alignment.

You have inspired me to write a post about my first car…LOL
